The last time I wore these boots the platform split in half while I was walking to class in December. When I got to school I krazy glued the platform back together, and you can see the glue residue in the second photo. Oddly enough, that one has held together since. But last night I wore these out for the first time since that day in December, and when I was coming home the other shoe tore from the platform. Walking home it felt like I was wearing a boot - flip flop hybrid.. very unpleasant. At some point I'll have the platforms cut down to two to three inches and have them glued back on which will hopefully hold together better.

Been a little busy. Not the exciting kind of busy, but busy nonetheless. Below is what I wore to my current internship earlier this week.. a lot of same old same old, but bitter weather always throws me into a uniform. The shoes at the bottom are Gucci (real on the right side, obvi). I know you might be wondering about confidentiality, but honestly - it's a knock off, not a new previously unseen design. That, and I'm not so inclined to feel sentimental about any of it since the geriatric accountant where I work told me if I wore heels outside I'd probably be gang raped because I would look so gay. Apart from making no sense, it would be completely unacceptable to tell a woman she would be gang raped for wearing something, but somehow it's perfectly fine to say to an unpaid male employee. Whatever..

Let's see, what's been going on.. I've been sick for the past week (miserable!), my last semester of college began (scary!) and I decided to start a blogspot for shoes in place of my tumblr (exciting! find it HERE). I've added a lot to the new blogspot.. it's just as much a personal resource as it is eye candy for anyone who wishes to look. I know people love the sharing capabilities of tumblr, but the format really isn't right for what I wanted to do.

Below, some random moments from the past few weeks. The last photo is from tonight. One of the cats that lives on campus was sleeping on my bag while I was working, and when I was leaving I picked my bag up and the cat fell right in. I walked out of the computer lab I was in with the cat in my bag.. which I have been trying to accomplish for three years. Check that off my bucket list.

Nooooooo, I didn't actually wear these out anywhere. Just wanted to switch things up. The only times I've worn them recently was for a drag performance to Marilyn Manson's Dope Show that I did for a feminism class I took last semester. It wasn't really drag so much as it was me in tall shoes with very poorly applied make up. That being said, I liked the gangrenous whore face I did for that performance.. the purple glitter lips really pulled it together.

Finally got around to stacking some Timberland boots last week. I saw a black pair just like these last year and had been itching to do it since. I went to Boris in St Marks because he's cheaper than most other places - and of course, this is what he is known for - but I still need to go to my local shoe repair to get rubber soles put on because the foam isn't super durable.

Some middle aged corporate type on the street said to his friend, "Look.. he's wearing bitch pants. You know, because he's someone's bitch." I had to bite my tongue to not burst out laughing because he wasn't even trying to be funny, it was just a casual observation.

&&& someone on tumblr mentioned Robyn is wearing a pair of stacked Timberlands in her Call Your Girlfriend music video --- and she has at least two other pairs I've seen since. I can't say I wouldn't mind a tan pair, as well..

There were a few minor changes from the last one I made in that wasabi green twill, but it's almost impossible to tell. I found this giant fur coat today while shopping around wburg - definitely the best fur I've ever found so far, too. No batwing sleeves, no excessive shoulder padding, no cheesey collar, no nipped in waist, no flared silhouette, and no 3/4 length sleeves.. AMEN. It closes left over right, too, so I guess it's a men's coat.

I made this jacket earlier this spring, and now I'm tweaking the pattern a bit for use in my senior collection. This weekend I started sewing the new proto in a khaki colored stretch canvas which I'm hoping will turn out worth sharing when it's done - it would be nice to have two 'sister' jackets in coordinating colors. While working I kept eyeing this tie dyed cardigan that was lying on a table beside me - I have a gray one that is almost identical that you can see in my post from two days ago - but the tie dyed plaid is so special. Some things from this past week or two:

I mentioned before that I'm stockpiling stripper shoes for my senior show that's coming up in April - these are my favorites so far.
A wall in my room.
When I ordered these shoes online I was under the impression they were going to be all white (which would have worked with the clothing in my collection), but it turned out only the upper is white so I'll have to spraypaint them or something just like with the red heels a few posts down. I had bought the track pants just before getting the shoes in the mail, and they seemed strangely appropriate to capture together.
Wore my platform docs with leopard tights earlier this week..

I found this Adrienne Landau faux fur stole on ebay last week for cheap. I wasn't positive I was going to love the color - flash photography, ya know - but it's really lush in person. Blue with black usually only happens when I wear denim, but I also like the more luxurious aspects you can bring out in these colors like in Charlie le Mindu's F/W 10 collection. On another note, today I wore my coyote pelt instead of this stole, and while I was walking I saw a dog leashed up on the street. I always stop and pet dogs, always always always. I'm entirely dog obsessed and depressed that I haven't seen my own corgi for over a year now. So I've been petting random dogs on the street in New York for three years, I've always felt really comfortable about it because normally I can read dogs pretty well - not this time. The lil fucker bit me! No warning growl, no shy ears and no frightened eyes, just teeth on my hand. So now you know, if I stop blogging it's probably because I have rabies or tetanus and died or something.

Prada Fall/Winter 2011 accessory obsession. I'll start with the bad: I'm not *crazy* about the oversize button detailing on the shoes. It's a bit too kitschy for me, and it looks super dowdy on the lower heels --- but these are painfully high so it's not really a big deal. That being said, every other detail is flawless.. the curves are mesmerizing and the color palette is brilliant, as always. I only wish there were some bags or shoes with those lush transparent paillettes that were on the jackets..

Last wednesday I went to the financial district with some friends to march to Foley Square with occupy wall street and the unions supporting the protests. The turn out was really great - it must have been the largest march since occupy wall street began a few weeks ago - and I felt like everything went really well when I left around 8:00PM. But later that night I found out that once things calmed down and most people had left the police moved in on Liberty Square using both batons and pepper spray on protesters. The police knew it was an opportune moment to agitate tired protesters in order to have an excuse to use force and make arrests. Government and media resistance has been disturbing, but at the very least it seems like things are getting better as more people support the protests.

On another note, today I had some grommets put on my jacket - two large ones on the front shoulders and seven on the back forming a smiley face. For my senior collection I'm doing the same thing on some garments I'll be making, but I wanted something to wear now. Next week I'll be getting something similar done on another one of my jackets, too.

I wore this earlier in September when I was asked to work the guest list for the Seven & Oyster Magazine party at Tribeca Grand at the end of fashion week. Let me tell you, guest lists are always special experiences - it's not glamorous, but it can be fun. People are completely crazy and honestly, a person's attitude rarely reflects their position or status - I got so much attitude from people who were, well, nobodies. I had worked at Lincoln Center and Bryant Park before - both backstage and checking guests in to shows - but this was the first time I had security guards to help me. They were super sweet, and now it's like my life goal to hire a bodyguard at some point because these dudes were so much fun.

I compiled a list of tips for entering a party.. it's all pretty obvious, but somehow no one ever seems to realize or care.

1. RSVP for the party. Duh. Unless you're friends with the person at the door, a friend of whoever is hosting the party or instantly recognizable as a "someone" you won't get in unless you RSVPed.
2. Arrive early if you absolutely must get into the party. If it's crowded and late in the night you may not get in even if you RSVPed.
3. Don't expect to get anything more than a plus one. If you arrive with five people that haven't RSVPed the person at the door will not sympathize with you.
4. Dress cute or be sexy. I had no qualms letting girls in if they looked cute, and if you're a sexy boy use your charms.
5. Be fucking polite. The person at the door is not responsible for the list, and they can't change it. Trying to peer over at names on the list is also really fucking annoying. I had several people try to tell me they were friends of a coworker or boss, but they couldn't tell me anyone's last name - R U SERIOUS? Throwing names around makes you look really stupid and yes, when you're gone we will make fun of you.
6. RSVPing to an event on facebook is not really RSVPing. Bringing the facebook page up on your phone to show you were "invited" makes you look like a fool. There's always a contact address listed somewhere that you will have to email.

I made this moodboard for my thesis collection last week. I really don't like making them - my school demands them regardless of whether or not they're relevant to your design process - so my moodboards usually only reference color and the original source of inspiration. Putting any more information than that in a moodboard is a waste of time.. but there are companies that use moodboards as a tool to help designers communicate ideas to the unimaginative corporate types that have to give the greenlight to every collection.

I stopped by Seven today and checked out these crazy swarovski bracelets by Mary Katrantzou. Like everything Mary Katrantzou does, these felt opulent but also eccentric and playful. The bursts of crystals are pretty high on drama in person, definitely warranting the price tags - $650 for the blue and $525 for the gold.

It was an interesting coincidence that both Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry wore eastern influenced looks on the red carpet at the MTV VMAs - not to say they looked anything alike. Katy Perry's dress by Atelier Versace is absolutely gorgeous, and I love that the dress in itself is the statement. I'm not sure how I feel about what Nicki Minaj wore, but I like the colors and felt it was worth mentioning.

Of course, when it comes to Orientalism no one can compare to Bjork. Her album art for both Post and Homogenic is nothing short of iconic.

This was a strange month for me. I went back to work somewhere I had previously only worked a single week, filling in for the girl who was deemed more suitable for the full time job than me. It was frustrating, but I'm not the best at retail with the average customer so I completely understood why I was let go. Most of the customers are relatively conservative women and tourists (we're right by a few hotels in the LES) and obviously I'm not the most, um, approachable looking person. I spent a few days in the first week of the month as the blue collar pariah painting the floors (an eighteen hour job). I was surprised it wasn't entirely unpleasant. This past weekend and this week I was back to being the sassy sales bitch. While working I listened to Goldfrapp Felt Mountain and the Knife Silent Shout non stop - hours and hours and hours of bliss. Obviously, there were some slow periods each day for me to take all these photos - I'm professional like that - but you know, I was working eight/nine hour days by myself. Back in June when I had my first week I was lucky enough to have an intern (so strange!) keep me company and help out, but she quit when I was let go.

The jewelry below is all Alberto Juan. I'm really into gold right now, and it's always best when a hand is completely decked out. The silver pieces are all gorgeous, too, but obviously more understated - though the rhino horn ring is pretty sick.

My Jeffrey Campbell Tardy boots broke today. This was the second time wearing them.

I was at work and walking into the back of the store when I heard a loud crack like I stepped on something. I picked up one of my feet to look at the sole of the shoe to see what I stepped on, but instead I saw a huge crack in the wedge. You can see the crack is bad enough that I can stick a pen in it.

It probably goes without saying: I'm not a Teen Vogue reader. But every so often they have an editorial with styling sophisticated enough to appeal to an older audience. This is one of them (granted, I was seventeen when I first saw this one). The styling was (obviously) influenced heavily by Balenciaga's F/W 07 collection, a few pieces even being included in the editorial. The eclecticism in that collection will never cease to inspire me - though whether or not that inspiration ever manifests itself in my fall wardrobe, I do not know.

This is one of those things that had been on my wish list for a lonnng time, but kept getting passed up for those shoes I had to have, that jacket I had to have, etc etc. Yes, somewhere down the road I'd like to buy one of Zana's brilliant creations, but in the meantime I wanted something more standard (and wallet friendly) to throw on whenever.

Among some recent finds, this rabbit fur coat is one of my favorites. I threw it on over what I was wearing in a post a few days ago (different leggings, sunglasses, etc) to take a few pics - this one definitely couldn't wait to be shared. The coat is reversible, but feels soooo decadent with the fur worn against the skin I wouldn't wear it any other way. I also love the savage quality of the leather side of the hides worn on the outside.

I bought these Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony x NaNa pole climber boots yesterday after finding out they had been marked down. I really like the awkward/clunky proportions on these - something hard to find outside second hand stores. That being said, I was drawn to the boots I wore in the previous post (vintage) that I found a week ago because they look so much like the Chloe x OC boots. But the vintage boots are quite snug so I took the opportunity to get the pair I originally wanted months ago and in a more comfortable size.

The past two months I haven't really been wearing boots at all which, for me, is pretty soul crushing. So to offset the heat when I wore these boots I wore tights in place of pants. The boots were originally knee high, but I wound up taking a pair of scissors to them and simply cutting off the top six inches of the shaft. Worked out alright, surprisingly enough. And with the lion tee and leopard tights it only seemed fitting to include Henri Rousseau's The Dream.

I mentioned earlier I wanted to put a hexagram on the back of my jacket. WELL, that didn't work out too well with round studs. If I was thinking at all when I started I would have foreseen the difficulty of creating straight lines with rows of round studs touching each other. I'm not precise enough so naturally, it looked like a mess. I tore off all the work I had done and started again with a less ambitious design, an inverted triangle like I had previously outlined on a denim vest last summer and just sold (see it HERE). I spent several nights working on it slowly after I got home from work, and just finished tonight. I'll get some better photos later.

Made a little progress on my jacket earlier this week. I really had no idea what I wanted to do so I started with the collar and lapel. One of the lapels has some weird, permanent wrinkle in it so I couldn't cluster the studs as closely as I would like, but I'm still happy with it. Not sure how much more I want to do, but I have started two trigrams on the back (乾 / 天 heaven over 坤 / 地 earth - also could simply be the hexagram meaning standstill or stagnation 否). I probably should have just painted them on, but I'm not sure what kind of paint would be best with leather.

& of course, I cannot resist David Bowie's China Girl. Only acceptable in the 80's.

Recently cut two pairs of printed tripp jeans into knee length shorts. I don't own many shorts so I figured it was worth possibly ruining both pairs (which were $10 each on sale anyhow) - but they turned out fine. Wound up wearing both pairs over the past two days with plenty of other colors..

Jeffrey Campbell is suing Forever 21 and Steve Madden for knocking off their shoes. You can check out articles about it HERE and HERE. Hopefully reading this you immediately recognize how absurd and hypocritical it is.

I compiled a list of designers Jeffrey Campbell has knocked off: Acne, Alejandro Ingelmo, Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, Burberry Prorsum, Chanel, Charles Anastase, Charlotte Olympia, Chloe, Christian Louboutin, Celine, Dolce and Gabbana, Giuseppe Zanotti, Givenchy, Gucci, Jil Sander, Louis Vuitton, Phi, Pierre Hardy, Prada, Proenza Schouler, Marni, Minimarket, Nicholas Kirkwood, Rick Owens, Surface to Air, Yves Saint Laurent, and there are certainly others I have overlooked.

Honestly, I do not care if JC knocks off other designers. Most people cannot afford designer shoes - I know I can't (fact: I have never spent over $300 on a pair of shoes). But if knock offs are at the core of your business strategy own up to it and recognize that suing another company for doing exactly what you do is completely absurd.

Corporate fucking greed.
